“I find your lack of faith disturbing” - D, Vader

Well, well well. It seems the North Side Baseball Team has their work cut out for them this week. Down 2 games to 0 in the National League Championship Series, the Cubs are hoping some home-cooking will do the trick and get them back on track for three must-win games at Wrigley Field.

Games 3, 4 and hopefully 5 are scheduled for this Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 7:07pm. With a multitude of drinking establishments in which to do your pregame fortifications and/or post-game celebrations, Bar Native has chosen seven establishments where you could enjoy some tasty craft beer. Our list includes three breweries and a few places that are slightly off the beaten path from Wrigley Field ground zero. All are within a mile walking distance to Wrigley and are pretty easy to get to.

So, enjoy a great craft beer (preferably local!) and let’s win these next three games!

The Butcher’s Tap – 3553 N. Southport – (773) 325-0123

Distance from Wrigley Field: 0.4 mile

The Butcher’s Tap recently tried the whole reverse-the-curse thing by offering Goat Tacos. Whether it works or not, they still look delicious. Located in what was once a butcher’s shop, The Butcher’s tap has a delicious selection of burgers, sandwiches and of course, some great local craft beers.

Corridor Brewery & Provisions – 3446 N. Southport – (773) 270-4272

Distance from Wrigley Field: 0.6 mile

Corridor Brewing is less than a week old (Opened October 15th) and has already gotten some great buzz for their beer (as opposed to the great buzz you’ll get after drinking it). Corridor is the sister brewery to DryHop (listed just below) and features artisan pizzas and some definitely-not-ballpark food.

Distance from Wrigley Field: 1 mile

The older sister (or is it brother?) to Corridor Brewing, DryHop has been producing great beers one after the other, just like the Cubs’ farm system with power hitters. There’s plenty of time to get a few of their delicious beers down before heading over for the game. Though it won’t be available until the Cubs are safely in the World Series next week, they’ll be releasing a brand new Starry Night in Sleepy Hollow Pumpkin Stout. on October 28th

Goose Island Wrigleyville – 3535 N. Clark – (773) 832-9040

Distance from Wrigley Field: Mere steps

Rising like a phoenix from the flames (hopefully an apt metaphor), Goose Island Wrigleyville shuttered after the 2014 season and unexpectedly reopened again in time for the 2015 Cubs season. Whether they’ll remain open or not isn’t clear, but this might be your last chance to enjoy this location which brews a couple of their beers on-site.

Guthries Tavern - 1300 W. Addison – (773) 477-2900

Distance from Wrigley Field: 0.3 mile

If a bar within a half mile of Wrigley can be called low-key, this is probably the one. I’ve played board games here, tripped over a dog sprawled out in the entryway and imbibed several great beers here. A good selection of local and national crafts.

Sheffield’s has always been serious about their craft beer and the selections are well-selected and plentiful. They’re also running a Brewery of the Month promotion spotlighting Half Acre Beer Co. Four of their beers (noted below) will be on special for $5 for a 16oz draft.
